Metropolitan International University Issues Security Alert After Kisoro Killings

KISORO - Metropolitan International University (MIU) has issued a security advisory urging students at its Kisoro Main Campus to exercise heightened vigilance following reports of recent killings in Kisoro District.

In a memo dated October 18, 2026, from the Office of the Dean of Students seen by Abunva VianneyMedia, the university called on members of the university fraternity to prioritise their personal safety and protect their property amid growing security concerns in the district.

The university has advised students to avoid unnecessary movements, particularly at night and during the early morning hours, while staying away from isolated places.

Students have also been encouraged to move in groups whenever possible, especially when travelling to and from campus, and to avoid walking alone at night.

The university also advised students to stay away from suspicious persons, avoid rumors and unverified information that may cause panic, and to keep emergency contacts readily available, including those of campus security, University administrators, and the police.

"The University is concerned about the current security situation and urges every student to treat this advisory with the seriousness it deserves. Your safety is a shared responsibility, and no precaution should be taken for granted," the memo reads in part.

This advisory comes days after Kisoro District registered cases of murder, including the recent death of Africano and his wife that has shocked the district.

Abunva VianneyMedia will continue to follow this developing story.
