KISORO – Kisoro District is set to distribute more than 251,000 long-lasting insecticide-treated mosquito nets (LLINs)

This was revealed by Geoffrey Muntu, the Kisoro District Malaria Focal Person, during a media briefing on Wednesday.

Muntu said the exercise will kick off on Sunday morning at designated distribution centres across all sub-counties and town councils in the district.

“Village Health Teams (VHTs), Community Health Extension Workers (CHEWs) and local leaders will spearhead the distribution exercise. VHTs have already started training in their respective parishes and wards,” Muntu said.

He added that residents will be registered electronically, where officials will collect identification and telephone details to establish the number of households in each area.

Muntu warned residents against selling the nets, saying government has invested significant resources to procure them to protect communities.

This campaign is part of Uganda’s nationwide distribution of 25.8 million mosquito nets, aimed at achieving a malaria-free Uganda by 2030. According to the WHO, Uganda accounts for 4.7% of global malaria cases.
